CARIFESTA XV Festival Overview

CARIFESTA XV, the Caribbean Festival of Arts, will take place in Barbados from August 22 to August 31, 2025, under the theme “Caribbean Roots…Global Excellence.” This premier festival will celebrate the vibrancy, creativity, and innovation of Caribbean culture while addressing global challenges such as sustainability, resilience, and peacebuilding. CARIFESTA XV aims to position the Caribbean as a global leader in cultural diplomacy and creative excellence.

Position Summary

The Film Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all film-related components at CARIFESTA XV, ensuring that Caribbean filmmakers and film culture are effectively showcased. The Coordinator will work closely with event producers, stakeholders, and technical teams to manage screenings, workshops, and industry networking opportunities.

Scope of Work

The Film Coordinator will:

  • Curate and manage film screenings, panel discussions, and filmmaker networking sessions.
  • Work with Caribbean and international filmmakers to ensure diverse and high-quality film programming.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to oversee venue logistics, projection, and sound requirements.
  • Develop industry-related workshops programs for emerging filmmakers.
  • Liaise with media, sponsors, and partners to promote the film component of CARIFESTA XV.

Film Events at CARIFESTA XV

The Film Coordinator will oversee the following events:

  • Film Festival and New Filmmakers Bootcamp (August 26-30) – Screenings of acclaimed films and emerging talent from the Caribbean.
  • Industry Workshops (August 27-29) – Training sessions on directing, screenwriting, production, and distribution.
  • Big Conversations – Film & Digital Storytelling (August 28) – Panel discussions with industry experts.
  • Film Market & Pitch Sessions (August 29) – An opportunity for filmmakers to pitch projects to investors and distributors.
  • Caribbean Shorts Showcase (August 30) – A celebration of short films by emerging and established Caribbean filmmakers.

Candidate Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A degree or certification in Film Studies, Media Production, Event Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in film festival programming, production, or film industry management.
  • Strong knowledge of Caribbean cinema, industry trends, and film distribution networks.
  • Experience working with filmmakers, technical crews, and event logistics.
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Knowledge of technical film projection and screening requirements.

Duration of Contract

  • March – September 2025

Key Deliverables and Milestones

  • March – April 2025: Develop a comprehensive film programming plan.
  • May – June 2025: Confirm participation of filmmakers, industry experts, and venues; finalize logistics.
  • July 2025: Conduct pre-festival workshops, media engagements, and promotional activities.
  • August 2025: Oversee the execution of all film-related events and industry networking sessions.
  • September 2025: Submit post-event evaluation and recommendations for future film programming.
