The Division of Culture will host a Cultural Agencies Showcase on Tuesday, December 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Barbados Museum & Historical Society, bringing together several of the island’s key cultural, archival, and heritage institutions for a full day of public engagement.
The showcase is designed to highlight the work, services, and national contributions of Barbados’ cultural agencies, while providing members of the public with direct access to the institutions responsible for preserving, documenting, and promoting the island’s heritage.
Participating agencies include the Barbados Archives Department, National Library Service, National Cultural Foundation, Film Censorship Board, Reparations Council, Intangible Cultural Heritage Unit, and the Barbados National Art Gallery. Together, they will create an interactive environment where citizens, students, researchers, cultural practitioners, families, and visitors can explore the breadth of services and programmes available across the cultural sector.
The initiative seeks to increase public awareness of cultural and heritage services, strengthen collaboration among agencies, and encourage community participation in cultural learning and heritage appreciation. By bringing multiple institutions together in one space, the showcase aims to make cultural resources more visible, accessible, and engaging to the wider public.
Programming throughout the day includes agency booth tours, interactive displays, mini-talks and presentations, and hands-on activities such as archival demonstrations, children’s literacy sessions, genealogy consultations, and craft or heritage workshops. These activities are designed to encourage learning through direct engagement and to offer practical insight into the work carried out by each agency.
The Cultural Agencies Showcase will also provide an opportunity for the National Cultural Foundation to highlight its work, programmes, and key initiatives undertaken throughout 2025, offering the public insight into the Foundation’s ongoing role in supporting, developing, and promoting Barbados’ cultural sector.
Members of the public are invited to attend and engage with the agencies throughout the day. (PR)
