Father and Son Set to Make History at Pic-O-De-Crop Finals

Background

For the first time in the history of the Pic-O-De-Crop competition, a father and son will be going head-to-head on finals night. Billboard and Dynamo, known off-stage as Billboard and Asher Murrell, are set to take the stage at the National Botanical Gardens on Friday, August 1, 2025, among 18 competitors.

Billboard is no stranger to the calypso arena. A seasoned performer and member of the CO Williams/COB House of Soca Calypso Tent, he’s returning to the finals with his song Golden Crown. But this year’s finals hold special significance, not just because of the title at stake, but because he’ll be sharing the stage with his son, Dynamo.

For Dynamo, this is his first time in the Pic-O-De-Crop finals, but he’s hardly a newcomer to the spotlight, having won the Junior Monarch Calypso title in 2015 and the Junior Soca Monarch crown in 2020. Now, he’s stepping up to the big league with his father right beside him.

Also a member of House of Soca, he will be performing his song Write Uh Wrong.

IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR

“It’s a great feeling,” Dynamo shared during a site visit to the venue. “At the end of the day, he’s my dad and I’m his son, so come Saturday, family life continues.”

Behind the scenes, it’s a true collaboration. Billboard writes the songs, while Dynamo handles the technical elements and presentation. “We both have roles to play in each other’s performances,” Dynamo noted.

Still, Billboard says his son’s success is what matters most. “As a dad, I’m even happier that he made it to the finals,” he said. “Dynamo’s stuff will always take precedence for me because, at the end of the day, I’m a father first.”

The family’s talent clearly runs deep. Billboard’s younger son, Potent, has also graced the Junior Monarch stage in years past so this may not be the last time we see the family affair sharing a big stage.

“It’s just a talent that God has given us. All my family are creatives, and my wife and I work together to nurture that, always putting God first.” This was Billboard’s response to the overflow of talent in his family.

RIVALRY

Both performers made it clear that while it’s all love off-stage, come Friday night, they would be given it their best and would be in competition mode.

Dynamo will hit the stage at position number 7, while Billboard is slated to perform in position 16.

Asked if there will be any rivalry, Billboard chuckled, hinting, “I got a few tricks up my sleeve.”

Whatever the outcome, this father-son showdown will go down in Pic-O-De-Crop history. (PR)
