The National Cultural Foundation joins the fundraising efforts to assist our CARICOM neighbours in Dominica with much needed food and other personal items.

This drive-a-thon tagged “Dominica – The Road To Recovery’’ was conceptualised and planned solely by the staff of the NCF, with the intention of touching many communities across the island.

Cheryl Welch, the ‘Road to Recovery’ coordinator said that the NCF staff were moved by the heart wrenching stories and the impact of the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Erika and wanted to do their part to lend a helping hand. They also thought it would be a great idea to garner support from the Foundation’s extended family, its many suppliers, sponsors and of course the cultural community on this convoy of care, and quite a few have responded favourably.

Twelve vehicles, including trucks and vans will be a part of this convoy to collect the donated items from the generous public. There will also be a music trailer to accommodate the artistes who have pledged their support through performances to bring life to the communities on this Road to Recovery massive relief effort in honour of our Dominican neighbours.

The ‘convoy of care’ will make four major stops throughout the day at the Saints Tyre Shop in Speightstown, St. Peter; the Glebe Playing Field in St. George; the BIDC Complex in Six Roads, St. Philip; and the National Stadium in St. Michael. This ‘caring crew’ is calling for the public’s support in the donation of non-perishable items such as canned foods, school supplies, toiletries and other personal hygiene items to show Dominicans that we care.
