The Event at a Glance –
The National Cultural Foundation will be producing the 2015 Crop Over Heritage Bus Tour entitled “Sweet Stories of Sugar, Molasses and Rum!” – a day-time guided bus tour around selected parishes of Barbados with six (6) stops along the way, where patrons get to experience heritage and history brought to life in exciting theatrical presentations of word, song and dance by some of Barbados’ best performers and designers.
Barbados is known around the world for its rum. And as the title suggests, this tour explores the role of sugar, molasses and rum in shaping the contours, commerce and character of Barbados and Bajans. At the heart of this culturally enhanced tour will be the exciting personalities and stimulating stories that have become a hallmark of the Crop Over Heritage Walks of the last 3 years. Pirates, planters and rum shop proprietors; slaves, skilled factory workers and no-good scallywags will all be brought to life as this entertaining tour reveals everything you have ever wanted to know about the production of sugar and it’s, arguably, most important by-product….Rum!
The tour will take place on Sunday, June 7th, with rehearsals beginning on April 27th.
The production team for this event includes:
– Alison Sealy-Smith (Producer/Director)
– Nancii Yearwood (Production Manager)
– Dr. Henderson Carter (Research Consultant/Writer/Tour Guide)
