The responsibilities of the Desk include:
- Organising and conducting training courses, community outreach programmes, seminars and workshops in the field of Music for individuals, community groups and school based students
- Producing Musical competitions and events at the community and national level,
- Facilitating concerts and providing musicians with opportunities to showcase their skills
- Collaboration with the Ministry of Education towards the development of the Junior Calypso Monarch competition
- Collaboration with community groups towards delivery of training and developmental activities
- In conjunction with the Festival and Events Department, coordinating musical components of national festivals
- Producing the annual NIFCA Music competition
- Coordination of musical events for festivals such as CARIFESTA
