Shakirah is celebrated for her exploration of Barbadian folklore and culture in her stories, with her third novel “Beware of the Heartman” scheduled to be released this year. Her adult literary fiction has garnered prestigious awards, including the Governor General Award for Excellence in Literary Fiction and the Prime Minister’s Award. She was also a 2018 finalist for the BURT/CODE Award for Caribbean YA Literature.
