2024 DECORATED CART PARADE
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
‘50th Anniversary of Crop Over! – Creativity on Wheels!’
- BACKGROUND
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Crop Over, the NCF invites creative individuals, communities and groups to recreate aspects of a Classic Crop Over event!
- ELIGIBILITY
- The Decorated Cart Parade call is open to participation by individuals or groups: schools, community, corporate, cultural etc.
- Any Barbadian resident over the age of 12 years may apply.
- PARTICIPATION
- Interested persons are invited to conceptualise the presentation of a cart or group of carts (anything on wheels) on a theme of their choice. Vehicles such as:
– Scooters, rollers, remote control toys, small replicas, wheelbarrows, push carts
– Tricycles, Bicycles, Unicycles
may be considered for presentation.
- Interested persons should submit a registration form along with a sketch of the proposed cart/implement/vehicle and a brief description of the design to the NCF by June 20th, 2024.
- Sketches should be no larger than 8 1/2 x 11 inches and suggest the colours to be used in the final design.
- One of the following themes may be utilised:
– 50 Years of Crop Over!
– Barbados to the Future
– Generations of Culture!
– Open (any theme of your choice)
- SELECTION & SHOWCASING OF DESIGNS
- The NCF will select the best 25 sketches by June 24th, 2024 and provide $500.00 per selected sketch for the production of the vehicle payable in two parts.
- Finished carts MUST be prepared for showcasing at the Opening Gala on Saturday, 6th July, 2024.
- All vehicles must be in place for the given call time and be paraded by the entrant for the Opening Gala. They must remain on display for the duration of the event.
- The number of persons planned to accompany entries shall be submitted on registration.
- Designs and enhancements to the entries must be original and clearly depict the theme as registered. All entrants are encouraged to utilise Barbadian and Caribbean themes, history, culture, social commentary, irony etc. in a creative and visually appealing way.
- Entrants and persons accompanying the entries should carefully consider their costuming towards enhancing their presentations and drawing the attention of judges and the spectators.
- During any presentation, the entrant(s) shall NOT make any gesture or mime likely to offend the generally accepted standard of good taste or engage in any behaviour that may be deemed to be morally offensive or vulgar. Such performer(s) may be removed from further participation in the event.
