2015 CROP VISUAL ARTS FESTIVAL
What is our Mirror Image?

This year’s theme of the Central Bank of Barbados sponsored Visual Arts Festival will focus on the origins, evolution and development of the Crop Over Festival, with a special Award on offer for those entrants wishing to participate in this themed category entitled – “From Plantation Slavery to Rebellion and Independence; What Mirror Image Do We Have of Ourselves?”

The theme brings into focus the concept of identity and how this relates to the contemporary Barbadian experience.

Competitors are encouraged to examine how our mirror image has been shaped by chattel slavery and rebellion.  Entry into the Crop Over Visual Arts competition is not restricted to this theme, however on registration, participants should indicate their interest by placing a check in the appropriate box provided on the form.

As is now customary, the exhibition spans three (3) gallery spaces, featuring core components comprising of works in two dimension, three dimension and craft – Photography, painting and two -dimensional works; three-dimensional works/ sculptures: ceramic, wood, mix-media, other; and textiles, gourds & baskets.

Among the primary objectives of the Festival are the opportunities for marketability, exposure, presentation, sales and education all on offer to the various practitioners of the disciplines within the visual and aesthetic culture of Barbados.

The exhibition, which opens to the public on Monday, June 29, is expected to run for the entire duration of the Crop Over Festival and will end on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
