Background

Public urged to rely on official sources for accurate representations of Barbados’ premier cultural festival

The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) is aware of videos circulating on YouTube and other digital platforms which use artificial intelligence-generated imagery to depict Barbados’ Grand Kadooment.

Some of these videos are presented using titles, descriptions and formats which may give viewers the impression that they are live broadcasts, official coverage or authentic footage of the event.

The NCF wishes to make it clear that these videos were not produced, commissioned, authorised or endorsed by the Foundation. They do not provide an accurate visual record of Grand Kadooment and should not be regarded as a representation of the true Crop Over experience.

Grand Kadooment is a living expression of Barbadian culture, brought to life through the talent and dedication of local bandleaders, designers, artisans, musicians, performers, production professionals, masqueraders and spectators.

Members of the public and media organisations are encouraged not to reproduce or share these videos as factual documentation of Grand Kadooment.

Persons seeking verified footage and information should rely on the official NCF and Barbados Crop Over digital platforms @thencfbarbados or @lovecropoverbb, as well as coverage distributed by authorised broadcast and media partners.

The NCF welcomes the international interest that Crop Over continues to attract. However, representations of the festival should be approached responsibly and with respect for the Barbadian creatives and cultural practitioners whose work makes the festival possible. (PR)
