Traffic arrangements announced for Bridgetown Market

Members of the public are advised that temporary traffic restrictions will be implemented in the Bridgetown area to facilitate Bridgetown Market on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2, 2026.

The restrictions will be in effect from 9:00 a.m. until midnight on Saturday and from noon until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.

During these periods, the Mighty Grynner Highway, from its junction with Holborn Circle to its junction with Brighton Road, will be closed to all vehicular traffic, except vehicles being used by members of the Crop Over Festival Committee.

Motorists will also be prohibited from parking or allowing their vehicles to remain stationary along the following roads, except when picking up or setting down passengers:

• Brighton Road, from its junction with Black Rock Road to its junction with the Mighty Grynner Highway;
• Black Rock Road, from its junction with University Drive to its junction with Eagle Hall;
• Deacons Farm Road, from its junction with Deacons Road to its junction with Brighton Road;
• President Kennedy Drive;
• Fontabelle Road;
• Deacons Road; and
• Westbury Road.

Parking or remaining stationary will also be prohibited along the designated emergency and alternative emergency routes, except for the purpose of picking up or setting down passengers.

The emergency route begins at the Mighty Grynner Highway and continues along Exmouth Gap, Westbury Road, Passage Road, Country Road, Roebuck Street, Halls Road and Martindales Road.

The alternative emergency route begins at Exmouth Gap and continues along Westbury Road, President Kennedy Drive, Fontabelle Road, Cheapside Road, Broad Street, Charles Duncan O’Neal Bridge, Fairchild Street, River Road and Martindales Road.

Drivers, riders, pedestrians and persons leading animals are asked to exercise caution and comply with all directions issued by uniformed members of the Barbados Police Service.

Persons who contravene the Traffic Control Rules or fail to comply with the directions of a uniformed police officer may, upon summary conviction, be fined $500, imprisoned for three months, or both.

The restrictions do not apply to vehicles being used by the Barbados Police Service, Barbados Defence Force, Barbados Fire Service or authorised emergency services.

Patrons attending Bridgetown Market are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance, follow the directions of police officers and traffic officials, and avoid parking in restricted areas. (PR)
