Traditionally a commemorative event based on the 1937 uprising by working-class Barbadians, this year’s Crop Over Folk Concert, which takes place on the National Day of Significance, will use the form of a Hip Hop musical. Utilising uniquely Barbadian spoken word art forms, we will highlight our rich cultural history through music and dance for an evening to remember.
The 1937 riots were a turning point in our nation’s history. Set in the 1930s, the Folk Concert will tell the tale of a young man by the name of Aaron as he prepares to enter the workforce and better his life and situation.
Join us as we transport you for one night, to a time when music was a force for change.
