CIBC Caribbean has joined the 2026 National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) as its platinum sponsor, pledging support for Barbadian talent and the continued development of the island’s creative sector.
The partnership was announced today at a press conference at CIBC Caribbean’s Great House, Warrens, St Michael, where representatives of the bank and the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) highlighted the importance of investing in opportunities for artistic expression, learning and professional growth.
Victor Boyce, Head of Country, Barbados, CIBC Caribbean, said the bank recognised NIFCA’s contribution to nurturing talent across dance, music, drama, literary arts, culinary arts and other creative disciplines.
“We recognise that creative industries are not only a source of cultural pride but are also an important driver of innovation, entrepreneurship and economic opportunity,” Boyce said.
He noted that the partnership comes as Barbados celebrates 60 years of Independence and five years as a republic, providing an opportunity to reflect on the people, talents and traditions that continue to shape the country’s identity and future.
Boyce also highlighted the festival’s role in helping young people develop their skills, build confidence and channel their energy into positive and meaningful pursuits.
“Our partnership with the National Cultural Foundation is a living example of that commitment to community care and engagement. By supporting NIFCA, we are investing in people, in creativity, and in the cultural institutions that help bring communities together and inspire future generations,” he said.
NCF Chief Cultural Officer Andrea Wells welcomed the partnership, noting that NIFCA 2026 had recorded an increase in entrants alongside an improvement in the quality of work being presented.

“For us at the Foundation, both developments matter. Increased participation means more Barbadians are choosing to share their creativity, put their work forward for assessment and take the next step in their artistic development,” Wells said.
“The quality tells us that our creatives are taking that opportunity seriously, investing time and effort in their craft and challenging themselves to achieve more.”
Wells explained that the festival’s value extends beyond participation and competition. Through assessment, feedback and opportunities for learning, NIFCA helps creatives develop their work and pursue further training, collaborations and professional careers.
Sustaining those opportunities, she said, requires committed partners whose investment demonstrates that Barbadian talent is valued and deserves support.
“We thank CIBC Caribbean for recognising the contribution of the arts to Barbados, and for supporting the people whose imagination, discipline and dedication keep our culture vibrant,” Wells said.
She also acknowledged the entrants, teachers, tutors, parents and others contributing to the season, crediting their work and belief in Barbadian creativity for the growth being seen.
Both organisations encouraged the public to support the artists and participants taking part in the remainder of NIFCA 2026.
“We are honoured to be part of this journey and look forward to celebrating the outstanding talent that will be showcased for the remainder of the festival,” Boyce said. (PR)
