CURATOR
To formulate and implement programmes designed to foster and promote cultural awareness and expression in the field of Visual and Plastic Arts.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To manage operations and staff at the Queen’s Park Gallery;
To supervise the selection of Barbadian art for exhibitions abroad;
To manage the Art Collection of the National Cultural Foundation;
To maintain records and be responsible for the management of the National Art Collection, in the absence of a National Art Gallery;
To identify and schedule exhibitions, relevant lecture/demonstrations and workshops at the Queen’s Park Gallery;
To curate exhibitions produced by the Foundation;
To supervise the production of art catalogues documenting the exhibitions in terms of content and format;
To monitor the receipt and return of exhibits for NCF produced exhibitions;
To ensure the correct treatment of art work while it is in the custody of the NCF;
To ensure appropriate display and representation of exhibits in accordance with NCF’s standard;
To research and recommend continuing improvements for the operation of the Gallery as a vital forum for local artists;
To liaise with and represent the NCF with other relevant departments/organisations;
To research and record biographical data on Barbadian artists at home and abroad;
To research and record the location of significant Barbadian art work;
To recommend art work for acquisition by the Foundation;
To plan/mount expositions and exhibitions of the National Cultural Foundation;
To research/document/produce material in the area of the Visual and Plastic Arts;
To organise/conduct training courses, seminars and workshops in the area of Visual and Plastic Arts;
To assist with the planning and coordination of activities related to community, national & regional, cultural festivals of visual arts;
To liaise with individuals and agencies inside and outside of Barbados on matters relating to Visual and Plastic Arts;
To present written and/or oral reports when required, on all work done in your area to the Chief Cultural Officer;
To supervise the sale of art work at the Gallery and ensure the accuracy of all transactions;
To ensure the timely deposit of all cash received at the Gallery;
To identify training needs for staff of the Gallery to enhance the Gallery’s operations, viability and effectiveness;
QUALIFICATIONS:
A University Degree in Visual Arts or equivalent qualifications from an approved institution, plus training and work experience in curating.
OR
A Diploma or equivalent qualification from an approved institution and three (3) years experience in curating.
OR
Acknowledged work in the visual arts with a minimum of seven (7) years work experience in curating.
Salary: Z6 – Z1 ($61,515.22- $71,936.17) annually
