We asked and the people responded! Barbadians gave generously to the National Cultural Foundation’s recently held Give-A-Thon tagged The Road To Recovery.
Yesterday morning, Wednesday October, 14, 2015, a little over a week after the NCF joined the country’s fundraising efforts to provide assistance for neighbouring Dominica in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika, the shipment chock filled with care, left the Foundation’s West Terrace headquarters for delivery to Dominica.
After all the sorting and packaging, the collection tallied seven (7) barrels and twelve (12) boxes with a variety of items from insecticides, antibacterial and household cleansing agents; to cleaning and cooking utensils; canned foods and other non-perishable items; clothing and school supplies; and necessities for personal hygiene.
The drive-a-thon, conceptualised and planned solely by the NCF team, took a convoy carrying staff, volunteers and local entertainers to a number of communities across the island with four major stops – the Saints Tyre Shop in Speightstown, St. Peter; the Glebe Playing Field in St. George; the BIDC Complex in Six Roads, St. Philip; and the National Stadium in St. Michael.
Barbadians came out in their numbers and gave along the route, left packages at the major points or delivered directly to the NCF.
Chief Executive Officer (Ag.), Mr. Wayne Webster lauded the NCF staff for their efforts and commitment to the cause; and the Foundation’s extended family, its participating sponsors and entertainers; and of course the public for their support.
Many of the organisation’s festival suppliers and partners either donated to the cause or gave of their services to make the Give-A-Thon a success and Mr. Webster also expressed his appreciation for their usual show of confidence and support – Williams Equipment, S&R Rentals, RM Jones, Ellco Rentals, Gildan, FLOW, Glacial Ice, Caribbean Cuizine, Nicholls Bakery and Island Ice.
