The responsibilities of the Desk include:
- Coordinating workshops, training seminars, and information to help further the island’s literary artists’ creative and professional development
- Assist Barbadian writers with professional and business development
- Coordinating and producing NIFCA Literary Arts Competition, NIFCA Literary Arts Showcase and NIFCA Balcony Book fairs and CARIFESTA Book Exhibits and Sales
- Publishing and developing content from the NIFCA Winning Words Anthologies
- Partnering with the Ministry of Education to encourage and develop creative writing in schools – e.g. Writers in Schools & Education Workshops for Teachers and Juniors
- Partnering with writers’ groups to facilitate book fairs and festivals
- Partnering with other creative groups to engender more engagement with Barbadian literature
