Beyond the Book

todayApril 22, 2021 261

Background

During the last year, countries in the world have seen periods of confinement and people have had to limit their time spent outside.

At this time, books became a powerful tool to combat isolation, reinforce ties between people, expand horizons and stimulate minds. Some persons have even doubled their amount of reading.

Friday, April 23rd is World Book and Copyright Day. World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day, or International Day of the Book, is an annual event organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to promote reading, publishing, and copyright.

As the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) continues to promote Literary Arts, we encourage Barbadian writers to become educated about protecting their work.

For more on copyright and for an insightful book club join us as we stage Beyond the Book hosted by Dr. Denise J. Charles,  an online session on Friday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. on ZOOM.

The NCF is committed to helping creatives thrive in a new a somewhat new and unfamiliar digital realm. As local artists pivot through the sale of their work, they are at risk if their intellectual property is not properly protected. The panel of speakers include: Poet Laureate Esther Phillips, Linda M. Deane, Robert E. Sandiford and Wayne Jordan.

The authors will read their pieces which will be followed by robust discussion.

The first World Book Day was celebrated in 1995, and continues to be recognised on that day.
