NCF Mourns the Passing of Veteran Photographer David Crichlow

It is with profound sadness that the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) mourns the passing of veteran photographer David Crichlow, whose lens preserved the people, culture and defining moments of Barbados for generations.

Affectionately known as “Pepsi” to many of his close friends and former schoolmates of Parkinson Memorial School, David was a familiar presence at national events, rarely seen without his trusted camera. He had a remarkable gift for quietly capturing the moments that became part of our nation’s collective memory.

Throughout his career, David documented Barbados through print and digital media, while also preserving countless personal milestones for families across the island. The NCF was privileged to benefit from his unwavering support over many years, particularly through his photographic documentation of the Crop Over Festival and the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA). His work chronicled the evolution of these landmark festivals and has become an invaluable record of Barbados’ cultural heritage.

Beyond his exceptional talent, David will be remembered for his generosity, humility and willingness to mentor and support fellow photographers. His legacy lives on not only through the thousands of images he captured, but also through the many lives he touched.

The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the National Cultural Foundation extend heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues in the journalism, media and photography communities, and to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though his camera has been laid to rest, the images he leaves behind will continue to tell the story of Barbados for generations to come. May he rest in peace.  (PR)
