New Reality

todayJanuary 16, 2022 56

I awoke this morning
With thoughts of change
As I sought to
Rearrange
My thinking
Of how today’s
Insecurities can
Cause me to be lost
In a mirage of
Tomorrow’s
Perplex,
Confusion.
I can feel my life’s
Seasons
Changing
Without reasons
With the earth’s
Renewal
And refusal
of surrender.
Refusing to
pander
To a universe choking
The sunlight
From Caribbean mountain tops
And flat lands
stripped of
sugar cane and breadfruit.

I awoke this morning
to a world
of virtual reality,
seep in protocols
that challenge
who we are,
that speaks of
distancing far
from our
shore
listening
more
to science and conspiracy theorist,
politicians pontificate
in our mist
expounding on
this
viral intrusion.
The sunlight
brings me healing
as I shudder at the thought
and somehow feeling
that we are not
revealing
truth.
We are bombarded
to be part
of becoming
new to normal.
To feel the prick.
A stick
in time
will not save nine.
We will
be here long after
cries turn
to laughter
and the abnormal,
subject to
blind approval
filling spaces
of our departed,
while
sadly, we
view numbers monitored
on screen
reflecting our naked souls
mossy green,
The colour of envy,
uncovering
the reality
of our have- not
yet we cannot see
the kettle from the pot.
I feel as though
my creative spirit must not
be deprived of
light and time and space
but flow free
like a river to the sea,
to be
the new me
in this new world,
our new reality.
