NCF helping Bajan musicians go global

todayOctober 15, 2021 201

Background

The National Cultural Foundation is offering musicians the opportunity to sign up for a Music Distribution Cluster to assist them in making their music available on the global distribution platform TuneCore, free of cost.

The TuneCore platform allows musicians to distribute their music digitally on Spotify, iTunes/Apple Music, Tidal, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, TikTok, Tencent & more. Musicians will have the opportunity to grow their fan bases and collect revenue from the sales of their work.

Senior Business Development Officer, Andre Hoyte said: “As a result of COVID, digital media has taken center stage of the ecosystem of many creatives. In particular, the music sector has had to rely more on digital downloads of music as a regular stream of revenue.

“During this period, the NCF observed that several practitioners requested funding for the purpose of producing digital content in the form of music, videos, film, and audiobooks.”

This inspired the move to get things started for Hoyte who added: “A key reason for supporting these practitioners was a need to equip them with products that could be made available for use on digital platforms, which we knew at the time was deficient. As such, our next step is to support the actual distribution of these products using available platforms.”

For the music community, this allows local artists to increase their fan base, monetise their work, explore the potential of music distribution in synch formats such as movies and collect a new revenue stream from their digital sales.

Musicians who have recorded original music within the last 6-12 months and are registered cultural practitioners are eligible for the cluster.

For musicians interested in the project, feel free to join a question and answer segment on Thursday, October 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
