The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) recently announced another collaboration on the production of the Sweet Soca and Party Monarch semi-finals, this time with the private promoter 4D Entertainment Inc., at their new event billed Phenomenal Friday. This confirmation came at the launch of the event, which is scheduled to take place on July 1, 2016 at Kensington Oval.
For the last 10 years, 4D Entertainment has produced the successful Soca on de Hill event and with that experience in delivering quality soca entertainment under their belt, it was a natural synergy for the NCF to partner with 4D on this inaugural venture – Phenomenal Friday.
Mr. Cranston Browne, Chief Executive Officer, NCF noted that the organisation has been fostering these types of partnerships that are aimed at broadening the scope of this Crop Over/Cultural product for quite some time. Indeed he added, the Foundation’s alliances with private promoters to incorporate the semi-finals of Sweet Soca and Party Monarch into an already established party atmosphere, began with the Pork Lime approximately five years ago.
In addition to the association with the semi-final competitions, the Phenomenal Friday event will host the first, all or nothing, ‘Bashment Soca Final’ on the island. The semi-finalists in the NCF’s competitions will be vying for a position on the coveted Soca Royale, Bushy Park stage, where the winner of the Bashment Soca will also be making an appearance.
There is a segment of the market that has been petitioning for the introduction of a structured competition in the ‘Bashment Soca’ category, and the NCF CEO remarked that this new competition, produced by 4D, could represent a real change in the soca industry. He lauded 4D’s innovative initiative, Phenomenal Friday, and noted that recognition of this Bashment Soca element in a main stream competition not only creates a platform for expression, but also opens the door of opportunity for many of these artistes to be rewarded for their contributions to the industry.
Through this event, and the others under their purview, 4D Entertainment Inc. continues to make an admirable contribution to the local festival, becoming a catalyst for revenue generation in the music industry and a number of other industries like hospitality and retail during the period.
The NCF CEO told the audience in attendance, “We are happy to partner with 4D Entertainment on the production of the 2016 Sweet Soca and Party Monarch semi-finals and we have every expectation that it will be a Phenomenal Friday.”
