Top three for the Headliners Tent

Calypso Monarch - iWebLast night’s win (Saturday August 2nd) made two (2) titles under the belt for Ian Webster/iWEB, the 2014 Calypso Monarch in the MQI/BANKS/LIME PIC-O-DE-CROP competition.  In fact the Headliners Tent of which iWeb is a member took all but one of the top five positions.

The journey to the final began in the tents with two weeks of preliminary judging, a semi-final, and weeks of rehearsals. Eighteen (18) faced the judges in the semi-final and of that number nine (9) were chosen to join iWEB, the 2013 monarch, in a battle to ultimately take the title of the 2014 Calypso Monarch.

At the stroke of seven (7) the battle lines were drawn and the competitors got ready to rumble! Webster’s De Karaoke Song and Barbados Is Still My Home was enough to retain the title and when the battle was over he emerged victorious as Calypso Royalty, the new owner of a Mazda 3 valued at $85,000 compliments MQI, along with a myriad of prizes including a mobile device and LIME TV service, a trip for two (2) to New York aboard JetBlue, a staycation at Divi Southwinds, a clothing voucher from Henrietta’s Closet, one year’s supply of Beer from Banks, and Travel Insurance for a year provided by Cooperator’s General Insurance. Brydens Insurance will keep him covered on the road.

First runner position went to his tent mate Adrian Clarke and second runner up to  another member of the Headliners camp Chrystal Cummins-Beckles; third runner up was Biggie Irie from De Big Show; and fourth runner up was Blood who also hailed from the Headliners camp.

The competition was adjudged by Dr. Victor Agard, Chief Judge; Norma Holder; Joy Knight-Lynch; Sgt. Michael Cummins; John Bryan; Litchfield Nurse; Stephen White; and Mike Grosvenor.   The Judges Coordinator was Karen Oliver; Arbiter, Jessica Ashby (Attorney-at-Law); Pic-o-de-Crop Producer, Adisa Andwele; Auditors: PricewaterhouseCoopers – Jeanelle Worrell (Manager); Rachild Crookendale-Ward and Gillian Brome.

In the final stage of the Competition, the Calypsonians using the criteria below:

Lyrics             a maximum of 35 points
Melody          a maximum of 35 points
Rendition      a maximum of 25 points
Presentation a maximum of   5 points

The other prizes awarded were as follows:
1st Runner-up                          $20,000.00
trip for 2 to New York from Jet Blue – valued at $3080.00
Shopping Spree from Courts Unicomer Ltd. – valued at $2,500.00

2nd Runner-up                         $15,000.00
Shopping Spree from Courts Unicomer Ltd. – valued at $1,500.00
A trip for 2 on LIAT (To any one of LIAT’s 21 destinations)

3rd Runner-up                          $ 10,000.00
4th Runner-up                          $ 7,000.00
The 6th to 10th places              $ 5,000.00
