NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE FESTIVAL OF CREATIVE ARTS (NIFCA) 2024 

SEVEN-DAY FILM CHALLENGE RULES

 

DATES The NIFCA 2024 Seven-Day Film Challenge will occur during October 22nd – October 29th2024.

 

REGISTRATION One registration form should be completed online by each participating team during the period of registration. The registration deadline is Monday 7th October, 2024 by or before 1:30pm.

 

REQUIRED ELEMENTS On Day 1 of the Challenge participants will be given the required elements (prop, location, character, theme). These required elements MUST appear in the finished film.

 

DEADLINE FOR FILMS Participants must upload or deliver the finished film to the NCF by 4:30 p.m. on Day 7 of the Challenge. Only those that meet the deadline will officially be part of the competition.

 

CREATIVITY All creativity must take place during the seven-day period of the competition. This includes scriptwriting, rehearsing, filming, scoring and editing.

 

PRE-PRODUCTION Prior to the Challenge, members of the participating team may research the genre, theme and cinematic techniques; secure locations and equipment; and organize potential cast and crew for the film.

 

PERMISSIONS All persons and locations in the film must be represented by the necessary permissions and releases. Forms can be made available upon request.

 

FOOTAGE All footage must be shot between Day 1 and Day 7 of the Challenge. No stock footage or footage shot or created at another time may be used. This includes use of animation.

 

STATUS All participants must be volunteers.

 

EQUIPMENT Any type of video or film camera may be used.

 

MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS Participants are encouraged to work with local musicians/composers to write and record music for the film. It is also permissible to use pre-recorded music. Rights must be obtained, except if sourced from royalty-free libraries. This would also apply to sound effects. Violations may result in disqualification.

 

DURATION The actual finished film should not exceed ten minutes duration. Minimum duration: five minutes. This includes the opening slate and the ending credits.

 

DISQUALIFICATION Entries deemed to be inappropriate and unsuitable for public viewing will be disqualified.

 

JUDGING A panel of judges will adjudicate the entries to arrive at the first, second and third prize winners.

 

SCREENINGS Winning entries will be screened for public viewing by the National Cultural Foundation after the announcement of the winners.
IP RIGHTS The Intellectual Property rights of each film remain with the creator/s.
