Passing the baton

todayJuly 13, 2018 195

The Scotiabank Junior Calypso Monarch hopefuls are in position at the starting line and in ready mode for the finals of this competition, scheduled for Saturday, July 21 at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.

The draw took place yesterday, Thursday July 12 at the Scotiabank Haggatt Hall branch in a relaxed and fun atmosphere for the juniors, to take the focus off their performances and the competition, if only for a moment.  The line up in both categories is below.

When it comes to our juniors, the judges always have a difficult job choosing the ones to advance to the next round and who will eventually become the Monarchs.  They often remark on the quality of their performances, which continues to improve every year and can be directly linked to the annual developmental workshops hosted by the NCF.

This is a competition and so the participants can not all make it to the semis or finals, but it should be noted that many of the preliminary performances you do not see are worthy of merit and recognition.

As one of their final duties, the reigning 2017 Scotiabank Junior Calypso Monarchs, Mhizz Kibabba and Sparkle T, bowed out gracefully with performances of ‘A Song for the Children’ and ‘This Golden Chain’ respectively, before playfully passing the baton to the 2018 finalists looking to take their crowns.
